  To the average Joe here in West Texas, the commercial tag line might go unnoticed. If you're going to spend the money on advertising, you might at least want to do some research for what it is you're peddling. The tag line of the commercial announces the name of the store as "Jolie" and then proceeds to say, "It means beautiful!" I suppose that is supposed to make us want to shop there. It's catchy. It's kitschy. It's also not correct. The definition and translation of the word "jolie" (en français) is "cute" or "cutsie". It's a more familiar and less proper word to use, as if you're describing an animal or small child or toy. The word in French for "beautiful" is "belle". To be fair, how many native speakers do you think see this commercial? Just a reminder how small town some people can be, I suppose. Do some research next time and you won't look so foolish. Merci!
